COC@10: The Legacy Continues
Ricalyn Perlas and April Anne Dorigo, PAO Entrance Scholars, PUP News, Volume 8 Issue No. 11 July 1-31, 2011Booths, floats, parades -- these are just some things and events to watch out for as the College of Communication (PUP-COC) celebrates its week-long founding anniversary with the theme “Waka- Waka, COC 10 years na!” on the first week of August 2011.
After its foundation in 2001, led by the former dean and now Public Affairs Office director, Dr. Divina T. Pasumbal, the College of Communication which has three departments, namely: Department of Broadcast Communication, Department of Journalism, and the newest one, the Department of Communication Research, is now on its 10th year. Proving its undying mission and legacy in producing well-known and excellent communication graduates competitive in the modern and changing times, some of the famous PUPCOCians are: Ted Failon of ABS-CBN, Bayani Agbayani of TV5, Steve Dailisan of GMA Network, Papa Jack of Love Radio and many others. The much awaited founding celebration will have the freshmen showcase the COC Parade with themed floats. The juniors will also be showing off their talents in band performing. Likewise, all academic and non-academic organizations will participate in the said event. The Communication Society (COMSOC), Broad Circle, Journalism Guild, COC Movers and Motion, COC Ensemble, Teatro Komunikado, Filac, Kuadro, Viva Voce and Art.Kom will put up booths such as Interactive Music Booth, Dedication Booth, War Zone Booth, Three Minutes in Heaven Booth, Disco Booth, Videoke Booth, The Hugs Booth, Film Showing Booth, Picture Prison Booth, and Henna Tatto Booth to add a more festive mood for the students. “We’ve been existing for 10 years now. The celebration would be showcasing a decade of excellence in Mass Communication. It’s a combination of academic and nonacademic activities for the students. It will definitely be fun.”Prof. Racidon Bernarte, Committee Chairman of the celebration gives his opinion on what to expect on the upcoming festivities. |

LEVEL UP: PUP COC Chronicles of Academic Excellence
OBJECTIVES
1. Maintain effective and efficient management of Department of Broadcast Communication faculty, students and staff.
2. Enhance teaching competence and academic qualifications of the department through the career advancement and adoption of information communication technology to meet the challenges of the times and be globally competitive.
3. Develop and produce quality, high-principled and ICT oriented graduates who can contribute to national development and be quality competitive.
4. Provide quality instruction to Broadcast Communication students through continuous updating and development of the curriculum in incorporating new concepts and perspectives in Radio and TV productions and developing additional program related to other areas of broadcast communication.
5. Inculcate research culture among Department of Broadcast Communication faculty and students through professionalization and institutionalization of research and development needs of the department.
6. Strengthen extension services through radio-TV drama and film productions and develop institutional capability through internal and external linkages.
7. Develop a learning resource center that is equipped with adequate and updated broadcast materials such as textbooks, journals, magazines, instructional audio and video in VHS, CD, flip charts, film and other audio video materials.
